Travel Ambassadors
The role of a Travel Ambassador is to encourage active travel, such as walking, cycling, and scootering, while promoting road safety awareness. As a Travel Ambassador, you will play a key role in making the journey to and from school safer, healthier, and more environmentally friendly.
What It Is Like to Be a Travel Ambassador
Being a Travel Ambassador is an exciting role that allows you to make a positive impact on your school community. You will be at the forefront of encouraging healthy, active travel and promoting road safety, all while helping to create a safer, greener, and more active environment for everyone.
Promoting Active Travel
As a Travel Ambassador, one of your key responsibilities will be to inspire your classmates to walk, cycle, or scooter to school. You will encourage them to see the benefits, including improving their health, reducing traffic congestion, and helping the environment. You will also lead special initiatives, such as Walk to School Week or Bike to School Day, to get more students involved and excited about active travel.
Raising Road Safety Awareness
Another important part of the role is helping your peers stay safe on the road. You will raise awareness about road safety, reminding students to use crossings, wear helmets, and be visible on the road. You will work closely with staff to create helpful posters and presentations, as well as lead assemblies that communicate important safety messages. If you notice any safety concerns around the school, you will report them to staff so that everyone can be better protected.
Organising and Leading Events
As a Travel Ambassador, you will have the chance to plan and organise events that promote active and safe travel. From scooter and cycling safety workshops to fun competitions, you will encourage students to take part and reward those who are actively engaging in safe travel. It is all about creating exciting opportunities for students to get involved and make a difference.
Meetings and Collaboration
You will attend regular meetings with the Travel Lead Teacher and other ambassadors to discuss your ideas and plans. These meetings give you the opportunity to stay organised and make sure everyone is on the same page. You will also be responsible for taking notes and sharing key information with your classmates. Wearing your Travel Ambassador badge will help others know that you are the go-to person for ideas or concerns about travel.
Communication and Leadership
